The ASTOFRAME can work with arbitrary databases. (Work with SQL Server, ORACLE, and ODBC compatible databases is already implemented). Developer of this software provide for conv generator of MS SQL Server version of HIPPARCOS and TYCHO databases. Database structure is in fact a one to one copy of described in ftp://cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr/cats/I/239/ReadMe structure.
There are two types of installation: default and advanced. A default installation uses local computer as database server and names databases as ASTROMETRY. This type of installation enables you to try examples of this document for training. Advanced installation enables you to install database to remote computer and use every compatible with SQL Server database name. This installation is rather convenient for scientific research. Advanced user have facilities to apply another local or remote databases together with this one.
Installation of HIPPARCOS requires following data files:
hip_dm_g.dat hip_dm_o.dat hip_dm_v.dat hip_dm_x.dat hip_main.dat hip_va_1.dat hip_va_2.dat h_dm_com.dat h_dm_cor.dat solar_ha.dat solar_hp.dat solar_t.dat Installation of TYCHO requires the tyc_main.dat file.
These files may be downloaded from ftp://cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr/cats/I/239.
Installation contains following steps:
a) Put extracted files to the single directory.
b) Close all applications.
c) Start the CreateAstronomyDatabase.exe (This file may be downloaded from the Database package).
d) Input database name, server name and directory of the extracted files. d) Press buttons for HIPPARCOS and TYCHO creation. System restart is recommended between HIPPARCOS and TYCHO creation. It is recommended to use the single database for HIPPARCOS and TYCHO
CAUTION!!!

Sometimes it is necessary to press buttons more than one times. If you see the "Press button once again" message then press once again. Database generation may take 0.5 – 2.0 hour. Wait please. Do not write HIPPARCOS or TYCHO more than one time in the single database.
